Wiltshire Hotel to cease use as Asylum Accommodation

James Gray, MP for North Wiltshire, has today welcomed the news from the Home Office that The Wiltshire Hotel in Royal Wootton Bassett is to cease being used as Asylum Accommodation.

Commenting James said “Following months of representations on behalf of my constituents the Home Office have announced today that they are to cease using the Wiltshire Hotel as Asylum Accommodation by the end of April. I know that like me many constituents will welcome this news.”

Those currently accommodated at The Wiltshire will be moving to other parts of the asylum estate, including large disused military sites and The Bibby Stockholm, which are less costly to the taxpayer.

The news comes against the backdrop of the significant action taken by the Government to tackle illegal migration. For the first time since the phenomenon of small boats began (four years ago) arrivals have dropped by a third, compared with 2022 - despite increases in arrivals in some European countries of 100 per cent.
