Lloyd’s Mobile Banking Services

I am really disappointed to hear that the Lloyd’s mobile banking service in Calne, Cricklade and Malmesbury will be ending.

This facility is vital to constituents across North Wiltshire especially the elderly, vulnerable and disabled people, as well as small businesses. We have already secured a much needed Banking Hub in Calne which will ensure residents still have access to cash and in person banking services. I will be voicing my concerns and working with stakeholders to see what can be done.

Over the weekend I will be writing to Lloyds to express my disappointment with this decision and to ask them to reconsider. I will place a copy of this letter on Facebook.

James welcomes Governments plan to back British farmers

James Gray MP has welcomed the Government’s second annual food security summit and the launch of plans which will boost domestic food production and improve food security in North Wiltshire. The plan, which builds on the Government’s strong measures of support for British farmers, includes introducing the first ever UK Food Security Index, which will allow the government to monitor in year shocks across the UK and support the sector grow more food. The Government has also responded to the Shropshire Review, ensuring that the domestic farming sector has the labour it needs, and the funding to support greater automation. This includes extending the seasonal visa route for five years and agreeing a taper for this period with industry, supporting the transition away from migrant workers with a planned £50 million package on packhouse automation funding. The Government has also published the Blueprint for Growing the UK Fruit and Vegetable Sector – introducing plans that aim to build the resilience of the UK’s fresh produce sector to boost domestic production and reduce reliance on imports.

James Gray welcomes solar statement

"Having campaigned long and hard against unsuitable solar farms across Wiltshire, I am delighted by this morning's announcement from Energy Secretary, Claire Coutinho. I am pleased that she will strengthen the argument which I and so many in this campaign have been raising against using good agricultural land for solar energy, and the need for food security. The Minister's statement accepts our arguments that solar should first and foremost be on brownfield sites, in discreet locations, and of course on roof tops. The agricultural land proposed for Lime Down solar park would definitely now be inappropriate.
