James is the Founder and Chairman of the All Party Group for the Armed Forces, whose inaugural AGM was held on Monday 7th June.
The aim of the group is to promote in Parliament better understanding of the UK's armed forces, and their objectives and activities.

- June 2009 - 3 Commando Brigade returning from Afghanistan
- November 2009 - 19 Light Brigade returning from Afghanistan
- June 2010 - 11 Light Brigade returning from Afghanistan
