2010-03-15-james-gray-nw-unemployment_120_67_80James Gray MP raised the latest unemployment figures for North Wiltshire in yesterday’s Work and Pension questions and asked the Secretary of State about so-called ‘ghost job vacancies’ which may have inflated the figure of 294 Jobcentre Plus vacancies beyond the number of jobs which are actually available in North Wiltshire.

Secretary of State Yvette Cooper responded that employment agencies should act reputably and should not operate in any way that is fraudulent when putting forward vacancies, whatever their motive for doing so.

James said afterwards, “It is clear that only a Conservative Government will provide the change we need to get Britain working and help those who are currently unemployed to find work. I believe that our Work Programme will simplify Labour’s complicated back-to-work programme, as well as providing extra opportunities for people looking for work through additional apprenticeships and training places.”
