North Wiltshire MP James Gray has welcomed the Government’s announcement that the mobility component of disability living allowance will not be removed from people living in residential care homes.
“I’m delighted that the Government plans to retain the mobility component for people living in residential care. Over the last few months, I’ve heard from dozens of concerned constituents and met with more than 40 residents and their family members at Leonard Cheshire Disability’s Greathouse service in Kington Langley. All of them were very concerned about some of the proposed changes to their disability benefits. I am glad that the Minister for Disabled People took on board their concerns regarding the mobility component,” said Mr Gray.
“Having listened to the concerns raised and carefully considered the evidence, the Government will now table an amendment to the Welfare Reform Bill for consideration at Lords Report stage to remove the provision which allows for withdrawal of the mobility component of personal independence payment from residential care home residents,” announced Maria Miller, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Disabled People a written statement
“Once again I commend Leonard Cheshire Disability, Mencap and other disability charities for their essential work in the field of personal mobility needs of people living in residential care. As a result of their campaigning, the Low Review, launched in July 2011, recommended retention of the mobility component,” added Mr Gray.

"He tells me that he gave written instructions last week for this planning application to be 'called in', in other words to be decided by the ministers personally. Through some mistake, that instruction apparently ... [Read more]

Hercules stored in Cambridgeshire because there is no room at Brize Norton
MP James Gray has spoken of his disbelief that sections of the ex-RAF Lyneham Hercules fleet have been moved from Brize Norton because there is no space at the base.
