James is the Founder and Chairman of the All Party Group for the Armed Forces, whose inaugural AGM was held on Monday 7^th June.

The aim of the group is to promote in Parliament better understanding of the UK's armed forces, and their objectives and activities.

James has organised a number of ‘Welcome Home’ Receptions in Parliament for troops returning from theatres of war:

• December 2007 - 12 Brigade returning from Afghanistan
• March 2008 - 52 Infantry Brigade returning from Afghanistan
• July 2008 - 4 Mechanised Brigade returning from Iraq
• February 2009 - 7 Armoured Brigade returning from Iraq
• May 2009 - Royal Air Force
• June 2009 - 3 Commando Brigade returning from Afghanistan
• November 2009 - 19 Light Brigade returning from Afghanistan
• June 2010 - 11 Light Brigade returning from Afghanistan
