“We were glad to have the opportunity to bring our particular arguments about future funding of the Malmesbury Schools to the Minister, Nick Gibb” said Headteacher of Malmesbury School Tim Gilson, and Headteacher of Malmesbury Primary School, Stephen Heal.
“We made particular points about the PFI funding nature of the Academy, the work of the Multi Academy Trust and the impact of rurality on our sixth form. We also made the point that although Malmesbury appears to be prosperous and leafy there are significant pockets of deprivation which the formula, as proposed, takes little account of.”
“The parents of Malmesbury have been ‘assiduous’ in lobbying me, and I was glad to have the opportunity to pass on their concerns direct to the Minister responsible,” said North Wiltshire MP James Gray.
“This Fair Funding Formula is a consultation which closes on 22nd March with the Government response due in July. The two headteachers and I very much hope that the Minister will listen very carefully to the detailed points we made and that we may see some improvement in funding when it is announced.
In answer to our invitation, the Minister expressed an interest in visiting the school and I hope to welcome him to Malmesbury very soon.”
